ONLF Press Release

December 22, 2011

The Ogaden National Liberation Front condemns with the strongest possible terms the unjust conviction of the two Swedish Journalists that entered the Ogaden to investigate the Human Rights abuses perpetrated by the tyrannical regime of Meles Zenawi.

This heinous act is a clear and unequivocal intension by the Ethiopian regime to frighten and terrorize the international correspondents for investigating the blatant violation of the Human Rights of the people of Ogaden and the whole Horn of Africa.

What is most unfortunate is the cynicism of some governments that claim to be champions of democracy to unashamedly support this criminal regime and go to the extent of claiming thatEthiopiahas a legitimate concern to protect its national security. These governments are fully aware of the historical background of Ogaden cause and have previously stated thatEthiopiais violating the Human Rights of the Ogaden people, who are genuinely pursing their legitimate right to self-determination as enshrined in the UN charter. This intentional and blind support of the Ethiopian regime will create responses that might have serious negative developments in the Horn of Africa.

ONLF appeals in the name of the oppressed people of the Ogaden to the international community to persuade the Ethiopian regime to release immediately the innocent Swedish journalists and give unfettered access to journalist to report on-going genocide in Ogaden.
