The ONLF is a grassroots social and political movement founded in 1984 by the Somali people of Ogaden who could no longer bear the atrocities committed against them by successive Ethiopian regimes. Military operations related to the 10 November offensive have concluded in Ogaden. In total, 6 Military Vehicles belonging to the regime have been destroyed thus far by our forces. The death toll from all fronts now stands at 985 of the regimes troops killed including 12 officers with a large number wounded. Military hardware was captured on all fronts of the offensive including small arms, ammunition, communications equipment and other materials of intelligence value. By all measures,

ADDIS ABABA — A senior United States official voiced concerns on Friday about the restrictions on opposition parties and human rights abuses in Ethiopia ahead of elections next year. "The US is concerned by what we see as reduction in political space and the ability of opposition parties to operate and do what opposition parties should do," Karl Wycoff, deputy assistant secretary of state for East African Affairs, told reporters.

ADDIS ABABA (Reuters) - An Ethiopian court convicted 27 serving and former soldiers on Thursday of planning a coup and found them guilty on other charges which also carry the death penalty. "The men were convicted of various offences including conspiring to kill government officials and conspiring to instruct the army not to obey government orders," Mekonnen Bezabeih, Justice Ministry spokesman, told Reuters.

Ms. Makhtal, 53, is the older sister of Ethiopian-born Bashir Ahmed Makhtal, the Canadian citizen and former Toronto information technologist who has spent the past three years in Ethiopian prisons. Convicted of terrorism-related charges, he was sentenced in August to life in prison, but is scheduled to appear before an appeal court today. His family, who maintains his innocence, say they have been persecuted because of the actions of his grandfather.

The Ogaden National Liberation Front's latest multi-ront offensive which began on 10 November 2009 has resulted in a total of 626 regime troops killed thus far. Among the killed are twelve field officers. The ONLF has captured sensitive intelligence gathering material including communications monitoring equipment. ONLF casualties were minimal given that our forces had the element of surprise on all fronts. A significant amount of military hardware has been captured or destroyed including small arms, ammunition, and communications equipment. Military grade maps have also been captured. A total of 4 large military transport vehicles have been destroyed.

Armed forces of the Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF) launched a broad multiple front military operation against military positions of the Ethiopian occupation army liberating seven towns in Ogaden on Tuesday,10 November, 2009. The operation involved thousands of O.N.L.F troops and resulted in two days of heavy fighting. A significant number of Ethiopian troops have been killed and their military hardware captured or destroyed during this operation.

The Puntland Administration detained five Ogaden Somali civilians in Bassaso, who were travelling from Yemen to Ogaden on 18th October 2009.Both the Puntland militia and Ethiopian Security extensively tortured the detainees and then one of the detainees was abducted and taken to a prison in Harar. On November 2 2009, one of the prisoners in Bossaso died of internal wounds sustained during the extensive torture subjected to him.

(NNPA) - Twenty-five years ago, the world was sickened when pictures of starving children flashed across their television screens each night. Extreme famine, drought, and war hit Ethiopia like a ton of bricks and the victims were the nation’s most vulnerable. Ethiopia was riddled by a deadly combination of war and apathy. And while many will never forget the images from 1984, this scene has continued to replay itself over the years.
